CDT - Days 21-24

Up at 0530 in the hostel. No AC and I woke up sweaty. Quick shower and worked on my blog post for the Trek. Cooked eggs and bacon for breakfast and caught a 0800 ride to Butte with an old Marine. New sun hat, shoes and extra business cards for the site. Thanks Galaxy! Back and leave hostel by 0930. Repack and leave by 1045. Stopped for a lunch and coffee at the Flumes. 13 miles left on the Anaconda alternate. 2100- 19 miles in and camped along a stream, under a tree in a flat spot. One of my favorite campsites so far.

19 July- 2230, In camp after a long, hilly day. 25.6 miles and back on the redline.Mile 562.5. A few steep mountains, 2 passes and met a new group of hikers. Chuckles and I crossed paths last year on the PCT. Over Rainbow Mountain and Cutaway pass. New high point of 9,380 ft.

20 July- Mile 591.5. Went 29 miles today. Started around Johnson’s lake. Up and over Pintler’s pass (8,736 ft.) Good deal of elevation gain and loss today. Ridge walking and an 11 mile dry section. Beautiful weather and was able to contact Galaxy. Trying to get to Darby Montana tomorrow.

21 July- Up and rolling by 0518. Made sure to set my alarm to be up and more efficient in my mileage and day. Early morning ridge walking and15 miles by noon. No water for 12 + miles so Stopped for a late lunch (1330) after finally finding water. Had to go off trail a mile to get to it, but so worth the effort. Got to the intersection by 1530 and was in town by 1620. Steak and beer. Camp at the RV park with shower and laundry. Resupply. Headed out tomorrow after breakfast.
